Testimonials
Since its inception just three years ago, NCPHP’s Treatment Scholarship Fund has come to the aid of more nearly three dozen practitioners in serious need of treatment for alcoholism or addiction, yet unable to afford the first step – getting admitted. The following are testimonials from some of those doctors who benefited from the existence of the Treatment Scholarship Fund. You can help a colleague - make a contribution.
Dr. G's Testimonial
As the recipient of a treatment scholarship from NCPHP, and now well into the recovery process, I look back in gratitude. By the time I got to treatment, there were many areas of trouble in my life – the least of which was financial. It was a comfort to have this support, especially from my fellow professionals. Thanks to all of you who contribute to NCPHP’s scholarship fund.
Dr. M's Testimonial
I never knew my life could be turned so upside down, and especially never suspected it would be my own fault. I refused to accept help until it became a dire necessity -- and by then, I was financially bereft. I couldn’t afford the treatment I had to have to get back on track. Thanks to the generosity of NCPHP contributors, I was given a boost in the form of a treatment scholarship, and feel I have my feet planted firmly on the ground for the first time in a long, long while.
Dr. F's Testimonial
My life and my livelihood were constantly threatened and decimated by my “need” for drugs and alcohol, and it took a major wake-up call – a near fatal heart attack – to open my eyes and begin seeking help for my addiction. But finding help and being able to afford it were two different stories. Thanks to the Treatment Scholarship I received from NCPHP, I went to a great facility that pointed me in the right direction – toward a good solid recovery.
Dr. R's Testimonial
"I recently suffered a relapse after several years of sobriety. Through their advocacy and a scholarship, NCPHP made it possible for me to receive not only the comparatively short-term relapse prevention treatment, but also the more prolonged stay necessary to address some long-term issues underlying my addiction. Without this financial assistance, I would not have been able to remain in treatment long enough to recognize these problems and deal with them in such depth and detail; and long-dark corners of my disease might never have become illuminated. Now at least I am not fighting blind."
Dr. Q's Testimonial
"By January 2001, my life was falling apart. Everything seemed fine on the outside -- I was a 4th-year resident, just accepted to a prominent fellowship. But on the inside, I was a mess, contem- plating suicide daily, and acting on it slowly with alcohol and drugs. I came to NCPHP shaking and scared. My credit was shot. What little money I made was spent on drugs and alcohol. I knew I wouldn't be able to afford whatever treatment was recommended. The scholarship provided by NCPHP made the difference between life and death for me. Today, by the grace of a loving God and the fellowship of AA and IDAA, I am sober 9 months. For that, I'm grateful."
Dr. E's Testimonial
"When I first came to NCPHP, it was obvious to me that you are people who really care about and want to help doctors in need. It is wonderful that the scholarship made available to me through NCPHP allowed you to act upon your care and concern. I am grateful for the financial assistance you were able to give me. This allowed me to get treatment that I needed and would not have been able to afford without borrowing even more money than I already had, getting deeper into debt at a time of tremendous financial and emotional stress for my family and me. Thank you for everything!"
