Funding
How NCPHP is funded
NCPHP is a not-for-profit 501(c) 3 organization, established in December 1988. Approximately one-half of the program’s funding is derived from the NC Medical Board based on a specific portion of each physician and physician assistant licensing fees. Other funding is provided in the form of annual contributions from the North Carolina Medical Society, some malpractice insurance companies, and concerned individuals.
NCPHP also asks for support from North Carolina hospitals and their medical staffs, and nearly one-fourth of the annual program budget is received from over 70% of these institutions and their staffs.

Fund raising drives are undertaken in the spring and late fall of each year in an effort to build reserves in the NCPHP Treatment Scholarship Fund and the Michael W. Wilkerson, MD, Family Assistance Fund, for the benefit of program participants and their families.

Since its inception just three years ago, NCPHP’s Treatment Scholarship Fund has come to the aid of more nearly three dozen practitioners in serious need of treatment for alcoholism or addiction, yet unable to afford the first step – getting admitted.
Words of thanks from NCPHP doctors…
“I recently suffered a relapse after several years of sobriety. Through their advocacy and a scholarship, NCPHP made it possible for me to receive not only the comparatively short-term relapse prevention treatment …”
